No one film captures the intensity and fear that the situation. Man vs nature, fear of the unknown, and most harrowing, the failure of our institutions and government and capitalism. Yes, make no mistake of it, if the looming threat of capitalism, that dog would still be alive today. They would have shut down the beaches, inspite of losing their summer dollars. This is a thorough and genuinely profound reply, and I appreciate you taking the time to compose it. I think you're right, in a broad sense. The only thing that separates us from other timelines and other selves is the butterfly effect– and, indeed, one could argue that's the only thing that separates us from other people in general. If things had gone just a little differently, we might have ended up with different progenitors, a different childhood, and be an entirely different person. As for your own situation, shame is a powerful motivator. I hope it's motivating you towards a direction that makes you happy.
