My main gripe with Alien 3 was that it absolutely shoved its themes in your face, and that is saying a lot considering Ridley Scott was a pervert and the first Alien movie is already shoving its themes in your face. It felt like they decided to convert the series into less of a cosmic horror that happened to have a theme to dissect with the alien species, and more David Fincher reading a Microsoft CoPilot summary of Alien and thinking "Oh, the little alien thing is shaped like a vagina? That's awesome. I have some ideas."

I have been severely lacking on my sketches and I apologize for that. I wish I could blame the migraines, but this time it is simply the good old fashioned combination of laziness and art block.

To speak without naming names a little, the psychological field remains near and dear to my heart and to see it reduced to the theoretical work of a single man who, if you have only ever looked at him through the lens of your own kinks and thus were not aware is somewhat of an enemy of the entire psychological field, hurts. That one man introduced ideas that are almost entirely used to teach budding mind-curious individuals the Do's and Don'ts of how psychological research is done. Empirical evidence is SCARCE and difficult but it is necessary. He had almost none of that. His 'research' was the scientific equivalent of Some Shit He Pulled From His Ass And Said Eureka! About. Of course it had interesting fundamentals that other researchers took and refined (Carl Jung, notably) but that does not mean he should be heralded as the face of the entire field. But who am I kidding? Nobody who talks about that man is interested in psychology, because if they truly had any interest in his ideas or the ideas of anyone else in the field, they would have had to suffer through so many hours of research pertaining to him specifically that just his name alone would make them feel sick. All I am saying is, if you are going to use psychological figures in your kinkposts, shake it up a little. Throw some operant conditioning in there. Get crazy and try to find a way to relate Festinger's cognitive dissonance to your #freaky. There is an angle there somewhere.

They are entirely about the inherent competitive drive Freud believed men developed through psychosexual stages of their lives; and the penis envy (yes, he called it that) felt by women through those stages. Continuing the history of Uesugi Karkat from his courtesan era: The life of a courtesan had educated the Akatsuki in language, poetry, refinement, and performance before a small audience. The next chapter of his life would prepare him to perform in front of a large one. Chosen for youth, beauty, and the type of androgynous features that can be easily slanted towards femininity with a little cosmetic prestidigitation, the life of an ONNAGATA — a Grubuki actor who plays predominantly feminine roles — afforded the troll who would become Uesugi Karkat tremendous fame, recognition, and inordinate wealth for a commoner of foreign hatching. As a former Boiran, the Onnagata had already learned how to wear the feminine grace of a courtesan like a costume in the theater of the Trollshiwara red light district. It was for this reason that he was scouted to play one of the most prestigious roles in any Grubuki play — the leading female role of Aggaei Makkie in the play "The Florastalk of Troll Edo" — for which the character, a commanding, fiercely loyal, and deeply passionate high-ranking courtesan, spurns a wealthy, but abusive highblood customer to protect her quadmate in one of the most famous monologues of scathing, acerbic, pitch-black venom ever recited in Grubuki theatre — the AKKUTTAI. It was for channeling this performance with such peerless vitriol that Uesugi Karkat became one of the most famous Onnagatas of the Troll Edo period. Naturally, the life of a Grubuki actor means constant pressure. Rehearsal, training, perfection of one's craft. Many onnagata of the time preferred to live their craft vicariously at all times, adopting a female persona through which to hone their "method" in everyday life. This was not the case for Uesugi Karkat, who shed his many-colored persona when off the stage to don nondescript gray robes whenever possible. Yet the constant pressure of life in a Grubuki theatre troupe and his ability to navigate it with grace made him both a leader among his fellow actors and something of a popular figure with the stagehands who he commiserated with in the wings. It was from these stagehands, many of whom were well-versed in the art of securing props with ropes, fastening theatrical rigging, and tying elaborate, functional knots, that the famed Onnagata would learn one final skill from the world of the theatre — one that would lead to his secret life as the NAWASHII.
